Give a food item, get a discount

GRIFFITH | A Griffith business is offering customers a break if they help stock the shelves of a local food pantry.

Griffith Meats & Catering, 507 E. 45th Ave., will give a discount to any customer who brings in a nonperishable food item to replenish the local food bank in Griffith, now through March 10. 

"There will be paper cut-out hearts in a heart bag with percentage discounts listed on them from 5 percent to 25 percent," said co-owner Susan Masepohl. " Depending on what heart they pick, the discount will be deducted off their total meat shop purchase for that day.

"We're giving back to our customers as a thank you for their efforts in helping us to replenish the local food bank in Griffith and to help those less fortunate long after the Christmas holiday season of giving has ended.

"My husband and I believe that 'giving from the heart' is something that should continue throughout the year, not just during the Christmas season. It is with that spirit of giving that we wanted to offer to our customers a discount for helping raise nonperishable food items to replenish the local food bank."
