GRIFFITH | A truck accident Wednesday that severed a NIPSCO pole on Arborgast Street closed the road for hours in an area already compromised by Broad Street construction delays.
Larry Graham, spokesman for NIPSCO, said a truck hit and severed a pole about 5 a.m. Emergency crews in Griffith closed the road for safety reasons. The road was reopened about 4 p.m., police said.
The accident further complicated the already difficult traffic conditions in Griffith, where Broad Street is undergoing a massive repaving project from Main Street to the Canadian National Railway, causing lane closures and delays. A new road surface, gutters and sidewalks are among the items under construction.
Broad Street is the next major north-south street west of Arborgast Street, making detours difficult.
