EAGLE CREEK TOWNSHIP | A 24-year-old Griffith man died Tuesday morning in a crash south of Leroy, officials said.

Isaac Israel Salazar-Zamora, of the 300 block of North Jay Street, was pronounced dead at 8:32 a.m., according to the Lake County coroner's office.

The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma to the head suffered in a motor vehicle accident at East 157th Avenue and Hancock Street.

Salazar-Zamora was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger west on 157th Street when his pickup went off the road, struck a wooden bridge and flipped into a ditch, according to Lake County sheriff's police.

The pickup landed on its roof in a ditch submerged in about 3 feet of water, police said.

Salazar-Zamora was the only person in the pickup.

Police said speed likely was a contributing factor in the crash. Alcohol and drug tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
