GRIFFITH | Starting October 1, the Griffith YMCA will be offering a Gym and Art class for home schooled students ages 6-14. Classes will be held on Mondays, from 2-4 pm, in 5-week sessions. Cost per session is $30 for members/$10 each additional family member and $60 for non-members/$15 for each additional family member.
“The Gym and Art program is a great way for homeschooled students to broaden their at-home education and gain beneficial socialization skills,” said Jimmy Gonzales, Program Director for the Griffith YMCA. “It is an opportunity for parents to supplement what they are teaching at home.”
The gym portion of the class will consist of various games and sports such as dodgeball, basketball, and soccer as well as activities for younger children such as tag. The class will emphasize exercise, proper stretching, and sportsmanship. During the art portion, kids will work on various crafts and projects and learn about the different styles of art. A Parent meeting will be held on Thursday September 27 at 6:00pm at the Griffith Y, which is located at 201 N. Griffith Blvd, Griffith, IN.
Along with the Griffith YMCA, the Southlake and Hammond Area YMCAs will be offering similar Gym and Swim classes, where the art portion is substituted for a swimming class.
