Most incumbent Lake County officials won endorsements recently from Highland and Griffith Democratic precinct committeemen.

Marsha Novak, the Highland precinct chairwoman, and Wally Hartman, Griffith's chairman, said their members voted this week to support: U.S. Rep. Peter Visclosky, Lake County Prosecutor Bernard A. Carter, County Clerk Mike A. Brown and Sheriff John Buncich for re-election in the May 6 Democratic primary.

They endorsed Treasurer John Petalas' election as county auditor, Auditor Peggy Katona's election as county treasurer and Schererville Town Councilman Michael Troxell's election as county assessor.

Novak said Highland committeemen support county Councilwoman Christine Cid, North Township Trustee Frank Mrvan and Township Board members: Pete Auksel, Ralph Flores and Richard J. Novak for re-election.

Hartman said Griffith precinct committeemen endorsed 2nd District County Councilwoman Elsie Franklin and Jamal Washington, of Merrillville, for 3rd District County Council.

They threw their support in the Calumet Township trustee race against incumbent Trustee Mary Elgin and for her opponent, Kimberly Robinson. They supported Shirley Stanford, Darren Washington and Clorius Lay for election on the three-member Calumet Township board. Lay is an incumbent township board member.
