GRIFFITH | Officials are withholding the release of information about the woman found dead in a fire at a Griffith apartment building Friday night pending notification of her next of kin, officials said Monday morning.
According to Jessica Metros, spokeswoman for the Lake County coroner's office, coroner's investigators are working with the state fire marshal's office on the case. Metros said the woman remains a Jane Doe.
The woman died in a fire late Friday night in an apartment at 620 N. Elmer St.
Lt. Matthew Argadine of the Griffith Police Department said police are not involved in the investigation and are awaiting an official coroner's report to see if detectives will join fire officials in the inquiry.
Griffith Fire Chief Roy Schoon was not available for comment Monday morning.
