“Bea,” the Lake County Fair mascot and a symbol of the summer season in Northwest Indiana, will be flying into five local Lake County Public Library branches in the coming weeks to remind region families that the 162nd Lake County Fair is coming up Aug. 1 to 10 while helping promote summer reading for region youngsters.
“Bea” will be joined by The Times newspaper columnist and Lakeshore Public Radio air personality Tom Lounges for a series of five Saturday morning book readings at branches of the Lake County Public Library, where Lounges will read bee-related story books to area youngsters. Registration is not required.
Children 10 and younger, accompanied by an adult, may attend any or all of the free Saturday reading events with “Bea & Tom.” Each includes the reading of two bee books, light refreshments, personal photo time with Bea (so bring your cameras!), complimentary “Bee-A-Reader” souvenir gifts, and a free raffle for a Family 4-Pack of Lake County Fair admission/parking passes good for any day of the fair. On July 26, all who attended a reading will be entered into a final raffle to win four All-Day Ride Wristbands, a $100 value.
Books to be read during the series of stops include: “Buzzy the Bumblebee” by Denise Brennan-Nelson, “The Bumblebee Queen” by April Pulley Syre, “Bee & Me!” by Elle J. McGuinness, “Bee-Wigged” by Cece Bell, and “Bear and Bee” by Sergio Ruzzier.
