GRIFFITH | The Griffith Public Schools board has decided to tack an extra 30 minutes to the school day to make up for lost time from the snow.
The plan, which was recommended by the Indiana Department of Education, means the kindergarten through sixth-grade days will go from 8:25 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. starting Monday.
Normal school hours of 8:25 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. will resume May 13.
Likewise, grades seven through 12 will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. starting Monday and return to 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 23.
"We believe this extended day schedule is the best option for our students and school community," the board said in a news release.
The board noted the plan preserves original scheduling for Good Friday, spring break, Memorial Day and graduation on June 1.
The board also said it can further adjust the schedule if more time is lost in the future.
