GRIFFITH | South Shore Dance Alliance is offering summer dance programs for ages 4 and older beginning July 1 and culminating in an end-of-session performance Aug. 9.
This year’s program will feature instruction in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap from a variety of dance professionals.
Roger Jeffrey, creative director of New York City's dance collective Subtle Changes and a former dancer with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, will be a guest instructor for the first two weeks of the summer program.
“This is an example of how life comes full circle,” stated SSDA Artistic Director Larry Brewer. “I first met Roger in August, 2008 when he was a choreographer for The Juilliard School’s summer dance program.
"That was where he met and worked with Briana Robinson, a former SSDA company member who graduated from Wirt-Emerson in 2009 and was accepted into The Juilliard School’s highly competitive dance program that August.”
Fast forward to this May, said Brewer, and Jeffrey completed choreography for Robinson’s senior performance solo, "and I watched her receive her undergraduate degree from Juilliard just this past Friday. Those are the success stories I love to be able to tell.”
SSDA’s summer programs will run July 1 through Aug. 9 at the SSDA studio, 201 N. Griffith Blvd.
Summer Intensive, for dancers 10 and older, will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Kid’s Summer Dance Camp, for dancers 4 to 9, and older students who are new to dance, will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Options are available for part-time attendance as well as for the full, six-week session.
