GRIFFITH | Working with children, putting them first and giving them all the help they need are the reasons three candidates are vying for two at-large openings in the Griffith Public Schools board race.

Jennifer Dildine, 42, holds bachelor's of science and master's degrees in accounting and finance.

She has no prior political experience and is an accountant for the East Chicago Department of Redevelopment.

"My top priority would always be the students needs," she said.

Dildine said all decisions by the board should be targeted toward the best interest of the students over everything else.

Dildine also said improvements probably can be made in communications between the school system and parents.

Keeping them aware of what the schools are doing is important and more options are needed, she said.

James Morosin, 62, holds a master's degree in secondary education. He retired with more than 29 years in middle management at Inland Steel and has been a substitute teacher in Griffith and Munster.

He also was a kindergarten aide and Title 1 aide at Ready Elementary School.

"I don't understand why all the excellent principals have left the schools in recent years," said Morosin, who has no prior political experience.

Another concern is additional help for the students in math and reading.

"They don't have enough staff" to take care of all of the students, he said.

Gerald Potacki, 52, has a bachelor of science and master's degree in education and has no prior political experience.

He teaches physical education and drivers education at Thornridge High School in Dolton.

"I've always been a person that is involved with the community," Potacki said.

There are no major issues, but Potacki said he can see both the positives and negatives in the Dolton School Board and can use them to help the Griffith board if elected.

"I've always been involved with kids," he said. "I just want to do things to help the community out."
