GRIFFITH | Three transit groups are partnering with the Lake County Fair to provide a bus ride deal to the fair on Aug. 7.
The East Chicago Transit Service, Gary Public Transportation Corp. and North Township Dial-A-Ride will provide the service.
The pick-up/drop off point to and from the fair is the Griffith Plaza, in front of the old Service Merchandise Store near Ridge Road and Cline Avenue.
ECT will operate its regular service to the Plaza, with the last trip from Griffith Plaza leaving at 7:16 p.m.
The North Township shuttles will pick up riders at Wolf Lake, Civic Center, Wicker Park, the Indiana Welcome Center and Kmart and proceed to the Griffith Plaza pick up/drop off point.
GPTC will operate from Griffith Plaza to the Lake County Fair starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 7 and continuing to pick up at noon, 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. with the last pickup at 5 p.m. on that day.
For each southbound and northbound trip, the bus will stop at the Lake County Government Center to connect with GPTC’s Broadway routes and for any other fairgoers who would like to park there and ride GPTC’s bus to the fair.
Northbound service from the fair to the Plaza will be at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., with the last bus leaving the fair at 7 p.m.
Northbound and southbound service to the fair and back to the plaza will cost $1 each way. GPTC’s free transfers from other GPTC routes; No. 23 at Griffith Plaza, No. 17 and No. 18 at the Government Center, will be honored.
The transit companies approached the Lake County Fair Board with this idea.
Fair Board members said they are anxious to try the service this year and hope these transit companies will increase their routes to include more days for future fairs.
