GRIFFITH | Lake Area United Way recently presented seven Employee Campaign Managers with awards at an annual appreciation luncheon.
Employee Campaign Managers organize activities within their workplaces to garner support for LAUW every year. Six ECMs received the Campaign Champion Award for the 2012-13 United Way campaign: Melissa Bohacek, Northwest Indiana Community Action; Karen Holland, Purdue University Calumet; Greg Madouros, Lake County Public Library; Ila Muller, Purdue University Calumet; Judy Pierscinski, BMW Constructors Inc.; and Sandy Skalba, Lake County Public Library.
“I was thrilled and humbled to receive the ECM award this year,” said Melissa Bohacek of Northwest Indiana Community Action. “It’s my privilege run our United Way campaign. It’s also an honor to be part of the dedicated group of people who improve lives to advance the common good.”
Special recognition for Employee Campaign Manager of the Year went to Ron Jerzyk of St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago.
"I consider it an honor and a great achievement to have been recognized by the LAUW as their ECM of the Year. I'm humbled and at the same happy to know that my efforts contributed in some small way to the overall success of the LAUW’s campaign,” Jerzyk said upon receiving his award.
John Kennedy, chairman of the 2013-14 LAUW Community Campaign and director of Business Development for American Structurepoint Inc., praised the honorees. “Employee Campaign Managers do so much for our community, right within their places of work,” he said.
“Every year, they solicit donations from their colleagues, coordinate special fundraiser activities, encourage volunteerism, and keep spreading the word about how United Way impacts people’s lives locally.”
During the 2012-13 Community Campaign, ECM’s helped raised millions of dollars from more than 9,500 employees at more than 300 Lake County businesses. “That enormous fundraising effort greatly impacts the quality of life for Lake County residents. As a result over 175,000 individuals received human services last year in our focus areas of education, financial stability, and health,” said Kennedy.
