GRIFFITH | Graffiti was found over several residential blocks early Tuesday morning, town officials said.
Officers checked an alley between the 300 blocks of North Indiana Street and North Rensselaer and found what they believed to be numerous gang symbols on fences, garages and houses in the 200, 300 and 400 blocks, officials said.
Anyone seeing graffiti should call the police at (219) 924-3141, Police Chief Greg Mance said.
Mance said graffiti, gang-related or not, is taken very seriously and officers are now investigating.
"And, as this graffiti has the appearance of gang graffiti, we will aggressively pursue any gang members we identify as living in or visiting our community."
A woman near Tot Park also said groups have been hanging around the park with music, bad language and spraying graffiti.
"They are hanging out at the basketball court" and parents are not taking their kids to the park anymore, the woman said.
"As the weather warms and park usage increases, officers will again increase their presence and address any issues that they observe," Mance said.
