GRIFFITH | About 80 homes on Griffith's west side are under a boil order after a water main break caused water pressure to drop there Sunday afternoon.
Rick Konopasek, director of public works for Griffith, said crews were called around 2:30 p.m. for a water main break in a backyard in the 900 block of West Ash Street.
Other utilities had to be called in to ensure no lines would be cut before Griffith crews could begin digging to repair the main, Konopasek said. Work on the main began after 6 p.m.
Water service was cut for less than an hour as crews repaired the break, he said.
Residents on West Ash Street and Pine Place should boil their water before consuming it or use bottled water.
Konopasek said the earliest the boil order could be lifted would be by around noon Wednesday. He anticipates the order will be lifted then.
