GRIFFITH | The Griffith Town Council expects to name its permanent police chief Feb. 18.
In the meantime, it presented interim Police Chief Matthew Moore a framed letter of praise from Gov. Mike Pence for the job he has done since being named temporary chief in November.
In his short tenure, Moore has worked with management of The Mansards apartments to place regular police patrols in the complex, which has been the site of various criminal activities.
He also started a phone tip line for residents to report suspicious activity and arranged criminal traffic interdictions along Ridge Road that have resulted in several arrests.
Moore is also working with the Highland and Munster police departments in a newly formed three-town criminal task force.
