CROWN POINT | Lake County prosecutors brought three felony charges against a Hammond man for an alleged sexual attack on another man earlier this month.

Harold Gene France, 57, faces one Class B felony charge of criminal deviate conduct and two Class D felony charges for sexual battery and criminal confinement. He was arrested Thursday by Hammond police and is being held without bail at the Hammond City Jail.

France has numerous prior felony convictions that date back to 1975 including for rape, assault and battery with intent to gratify and dealing cocaine, court records state. He was paroled from the last conviction on March 21, 2009.

According to the probable cause affidavit, France knocked on the door of another resident of the Jefferson Hotel, at 415 Sibley St., and asked him to join him to smoke some marijuana. The sexual attack occurred in that man’s room, the court documents indicate.

France is scheduled for his formal appearance April 30 in Lake Criminal Court in Crown Point with Judge Clarence Murray presiding.
