Eddie Broomes' family has talked about his 12th birthday since he was born.
His mother, Katrina Guardiola, remembers still being in the hospital when she figured out her baby boy would celebrate his golden birthday in a special way.
“It dawned on us that on 12/12/12, he'll be 12,” Guardiola, of Hammond, said. “That was pretty cool.”
Plans are to celebrate the milestone this weekend with a party featuring a DJ. On Wednesday, Guardiola brought cupcakes to Morton Elementary, where Eddie attends school.
“My principal said it's cool you are turning 12 on 12/12, and it's going to be 2012,” Eddie said. “My friends were like, 'Can I have a cupcake?'”
Eddie shares a birthday with Abbigail Stram, of Valparaiso.
“It's interesting to talk to people and explain to them the significant value of it,” Abbigail's mother, Sherri Moreno, said.
When Abbigail turned 1, Moreno took note of the pattern her birthdays would take. Three of her daughters have December birthdays.
Abbigail, a sixth-grader at Morgan Township schools, spent her birthday in class. Over the holiday break, her family is planning on renting hotel rooms for a party.
“She's been really excited about it. I think more for the hotel,” Moreno said. “She woke up early, and the school was going to make an announcement. Her sister decorated her locker and decorated her bedroom."
