HAMMOND | Another alleged member of the Almighty Imperial Gangsters street gang intends to plead guilty in federal court to his role in a racketeering and drug distribution case focused on the south side of East Chicago, according to court papers.
Guillermo Briseno is to plead guilty to conspiracy to participate in racketeering activity and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana.
In return for his plea, the United States attorney's office recommends the court impose the minimum sentence, according to court documents.
The drug count carries a minimum mandatory sentence of five years behind bars.
Twelve suspected members of the gang were indicted last year with racketeering and the killings of nine people over five years, court records show.
Investigators believe the gang used "kill on sight" and "shoot on sight" orders to promote violence and intimidation in the community, court records state.
