HAMMOND | Three people were arrested early Saturday during a brawl at a Hammond night club.
Hammond police spokesman Lt. Richard Hoyda said 12 squad cars responded to the 2 a.m. disturbance at AquaVor Night Club, 5260 Hohman Ave.
The fight marked the 37th call for service this year at the club, Hoyda said. There were 48 calls for service there in 2012, he said.
“I don’t know what caused the large fight,” Hoyda said. “A police officer called for as many units as we could send.”
Hoyda said an officer at the scene estimated there were more than 200 people in the bar at the time.
Hoyda said the three Hammond residents arrested and charged were: Julian Pleasure, 21, disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement; Tatanina Whitelow, 26, refusal to aid an officer and public intoxication; and Shaun Whitelow, 23, public intoxication, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.
Shaun Whitelow has a pending unrelated case for possession of a handgun. An omnibus hearing is set April 22 in Lake Superior Court.
In a separate unrelated case, Pleasure pleaded guilty Wednesday in Hammond City Court to possession of marijuana. He received probation, and resisting law enforcement and other drug-related charges were dismissed.
In late March, during an underage drinking inspection sweep by Hammond police and Indiana Excise Police, three minors were arrested at AquaVor and the establishment was cited for allowing minors to loiter.
The night club, billed as posh by its owners, opened in downtown Hammond in November 2011 after a $2 million renovation.
The building was formerly an adult novelty store and in the past home to a Chinese restaurant frequented by local author Jean Shepherd and immortalized in a Christmas dinner scene in the movie “A Christmas Story.”
