INDIANAPOLIS | Five Northwest Indiana mayors are among more than a dozen city and town executives who endorsed Democrat John Gregg for governor Wednesday.
Region mayors supporting Gregg are Gary's Rudy Clay, Hammond's Thomas McDermott Jr., Hobart's Brian Snedecor, Whiting's Joseph Stahura and Portage's Olga Velazquez.
"John Gregg is exactly the kind of leader Northwest Indiana needs in Indianapolis," Snedecor said. "John will work with Republicans and Democrats alike, while also standing up for working men and women in Whiting and across the state."
Gregg, of Sandborn, was speaker of the Indiana House from 1996 to 2002 and served as president of Vincennes University.
He is expected to run unopposed for the Democratic nomination in the race to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels.
