HAMMOND | An employee of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local Union Lodge 374 is accused of embezzling more than $9,000, according to court documents.

Karen L. Stone was charged with embezzlement of union funds in federal court last week. She is expected to plead guilty to the charge Feb. 18, according to court documents. 

According to a plea agreement, between May 2007 and September 2011 Stone transferred $9,169.59 of union funds to her personal bank accounts using direct deposit. She was hired in 2008 as the bookkeeper for the Hammond-based union.

She could face five years in prison and three years of supervised release, according to the agreement.
