HAMMOND | Enter the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority's Ugly Lamp Contest to win a leg lamp from the holiday movie classic, "A Christmas Story."
Entries for the ugliest lamp competition will be accepted through Nov. 21 at the Indiana Welcome Center, 7770 Corinne Drive. Lamps can be dropped off during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
In the classic 1983 holiday film, Mr. Parker wins a leg lamp as a “major award” from a contest in the newspaper. He proudly displays the lamp in the family’s living room window until Mrs. Parker accidentally breaks it. Leg lamps have been a popular feature ever since.
Visitors to the Indiana Welcome Center will vote on the ugliest lamp in two categories, "Born Ugly" and "Made Ugly", from Nov. 21 to Dec. 14, and winners will be announced Dec. 17. Entries will be displayed until Jan. 6 and can be claimed Jan. 7–11.
The Ugly Lamp Contest is part of the exhibit “A Christmas Story Comes Home” at the Indiana Welcome Center from Nov. 10 to Jan. 6. Last year, there were 18 entries in the contest.
