HAMMOND | Hammond business owners are invited to an exhibition and auction of student artworks from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Morton High School, 6915 Grand Ave.
More than 25 original artworks will be up for bid through Art Lenders, the visual arts program in the School City of Hammond, with refreshments and musical entertainment provided by Franklin and Kenwood elementary school students.
Art Lenders is hosting its fourth annual art exhibit by Hammond elementary art students, grades 1 to 5. Artworks will be up for bid for Hammond businesses to display at their places of business for one year.
"You will be very surprised at the variety and quality of work created by these talented young artists," said Joan Buvala, co-creative director of Art Lenders.
"From whimsical water colors to fine pencil portraits and landscapes, the student art will brighten any lobby concourse, check out, hallway, or office space in your place of business."
Bidding starts at $30, and all artwork is framed and ready to display. A photograph and biography of the young artist will also be provided to display for one year. At the end of a year, the artwork will be returned to its creator.
All proceeds will fund programs to enhance art education in the School City of Hammond. "The development, academic success, and self-esteem of children are supported with the creative opportunities provided by the arts," added Monica Korzenecki, also a co-creative director of Art Lenders. "Please join us to ensure that our young artists will have a memorable opportunity to display their talents for their friends, family and our community."
