CROWN POINT | A Hammond cab driver has been charged with sexual battery for allegedly fondling a passenger after delivering her to a Target store in St. John.

A probable cause affidavit filed Monday alleges Paul Coulis, 59, of Dyer, who manages Yellow Cab Co. in Hammond, had driven the woman to places about 10 times prior to the incident knowing she suffers from a neurological disorder.

The woman told police the encounter lasted about 10 to 15 minutes in a remote part of the Target parking lot.

Video surveillance shows the white Lincoln Town Car parked by itself in a manner police said was meant to conceal Coulis and the passenger from store patrons walking to their cars, the affidavit states.

Coulis' car remained parked in the remote location from 12:48 to 1:01 p.m., at which time Coulis drove to the front of Target and the passenger entered the store.

Coulis admitted the woman has ridden in his car about 10 times but denied delaying her arrival at the store, the affidavit states.
