HAMMOND | A federal grand jury indicted a 29-year-old Chicago man this week on charges he forced a 14-year-old Hammond girl to have sex with him in a Lansing hotel room earlier this year.
Carey Ray, of Chicago, was indicted in Hammond federal court Thursday on a charge of transporting a minor in interstate commerce with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, court records show.
According to a criminal complaint filed in October, Ray transported the victim from her Hammond home to a Lansing hotel Oct. 8.
At the hotel, "Ray engaged in conduct constituting criminal sexual assault of (the victim) under Illinois law," the criminal complaint states.
Prior to having sex with the girl, Ray encouraged her to smoke marijuana and drink a cup of alcohol, according to the complaint.
The victim told a federal investigator that when Ray began to undress her, she told him "no," but he proceeded anyway, authorities allege.
"I paid for the room already. I am going to get what I want," the victim quoted Ray as having told her.
The victim told authorities she kicked Ray in the knee and struggled trying to get away. But in the end, he forced her to have sex, the criminal complaint alleges.
Ray then allegedly drove the victim back to her home in Hammond, and the victim told her mother about the incident the next morning.
