Summer concerts are just around the corner and a packed schedule of spring events and activities in Hammond this month is ready to roll.
Cinco de Mayo
Please join us at the ninth annual Cinco de Mayo from 5 to 11 p.m. today at the Hammond Civic Center. Food will be served from 5:30 to 8. All tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance or at the door.

Nature & Environmental Show
Hammond’s Nature and Environmental Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jean Shepherd Center, 3031 Mahoney Drive.
This is a free event. Free flowers, tree seedlings, and paint (while supplies last) will be distributed.
Star Lab Planetarium will present a “Star Show” from 10 a.m. to noon, and the Washington Park Zoo will bring some zoo animals for a visit from noon to 2 p.m.
Please join the Downtown Hammond Council with its Spring Clean-up in downtown Hammond from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Hohman Avenue and Williams Street.

Woodmar Crime Watch
Woodmar’s Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Hammond Housing Authority, 1402 173rd St. Guests will be the Hammond Police Department K-9 unit.
Robertsdale/Whiting Crime Watch
Robertsdale/Whiting Crime Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Calumet College of St. Joseph, Room 200, 2400 New York Ave.
Guest speakers will be Linda Gurgel from the Indiana Attorney General’s office, along with Phil Taillon.
Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr. and the Hammond Parks and Recreation Department welcomes those 55 and older to a Senior Prom from noon to 3 p.m. May 15 at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 Sohl Ave.
The cost is $20. Enjoy an afternoon of fun with a live band, dancing, food and crowning of the Prom King and Queen. Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Saturday clean-up days
Every Saturday through September, the Hammond street, sanitation and parks and recreation departments will be working on Saturdays on clean-up and beautification efforts in the city. Call the mayor’s office at (219) 853-6301 and speak with Chief of Staff Mark McLaughlin to request that a specific area be cleaned up.

Tickets are now on sale for our June 28 Concert at the Pavilion at Wolf Lake, featuring Creedence Clearwater Revisited, for $30 per ticket. Parking is free.
