HAMMOND | Good role models are difficult to find. But in the Hammond Schools, those finds may be at the next school.
Clark High School Student/Athletes spent time last Friday to help Lincoln Elementary School take a 'Timeout for Reading.'
"It's more fun for me and I enjoy reading and interacting with them," said Eugene Walls, Clark High School senior and star running back. "It's cool to talk to them about school and encourage them to work hard."
About a dozen students joined the efforts and invaded Lincoln, Irving and Franklin Elementary classrooms to spend time with the younger students.
"It's a wonderful opportunity to read to the students and show them what high school is all about," said David Perez, Clark High School dean of student. "Our students take their role of mentoring very seriously."
The Clark High School students that participating in this year's national 'Timeout for Reading' program included Victor Haro, Edward Piaseczny, Kris Barrera, Eugene Wilson, Alejandro Contreras, Miriam Giron, Sara Kruszynski, Andrea Zamora, Selena Gamez and Stephanie Richards.
