The Hammond Marina will host a “Welcome To The Water” celebration Saturday, which is National Marina Day.

As families look for fun outdoor activities that everyone can enjoy we want to encourage them to try boating.

Some of the Welcome to the Water activities include: Region Bass Buzz’s Pat Renwick along with Conservationist Mike Echterling from 10 a.m. to noon, kayak demonstrations from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Sail a Way open house from noon to 3 p.m., and 1540 in concert at 6. A beer garden will be operated by Bull Dog Brewery. Free giveaways and free parking.

Pools to open

Hammond’s four outdoor pools, Pulaski, Edison, King and Hessville, will be open starting Saturday and through Aug. 17. Purchase pool passes now at the Hammond Civic Center or Jean Shepherd Community Center. Summer recreation program

Hammond's summer recreation program is right around the corner. Free to Hammond residents 5 to 12, it starts June 17 through Aug. 9, Monday through Friday (weather permitting).

Children will be in a supervised day camp setting with sports equipment, games, and arts and crafts. Breakfast and lunch are provided by School City of Hammond.

Browse to the Beat

Join the Downtown Hammond Council for its fourth annual Eat, Shop & Rock: Browse to the Beat Sidewalk Sale & Fest, a celebration of the 1960s, 1970s and The Beatles, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22 at Hohman Avenue and Williams Street in downtown Hammond.

There will be live music as well as arts and crafts, vintage cars, a Beatles Bean Bag Tournament and food. For more information, call Karen at (219) 512-4298.

Play in the water

The Aquatic Play Center at Wolf Lake, 2100 Calumet Ave., is now open (weather permitting) and remains open until Labor Day for ages 12 and younger. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. For the hours f operation, call (219) 937-7942.

First summer concert

The City of Hammond is proud to kick off its Summer Concert Season with Creedence Clearwater Revisited on June 28 at the Pavilion at Wolf Lake.

Tickets are $30, and parking is free. Purchase tickets at www.wolflakepavilion.com, www.ticketweb.com, the Hammond Civic Center, Hammond Marina or by calling (219) 937-7942.
