Dancers “Steppin’ Into Spring”

HAMMOND | The Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts at Morton High School Indiana will conclude its dance performance season with a spring dance concert, “Steppin’ Into Spring” at 7 p.m. May 23 and 24 in the  Morton High School Auditorium, 6915 Grand Ave.

The show features Hammond Academy for the Performing arts dance majors, the HAPA Dance Ensemble and Tap Ensemble.

The production is choreographed by dance faculty members Kathleen Dominiak Treasure and Cindy Melchor, Hammond School Board Vice President Anna Mamala, and guest instructor Michal Davis, with additional choreography by HAPA students.

“Steppin’ Into Spring” will contain several dance pieces based on a variety of subject matter. Techniques emphasized in the show are ballet, jazz, modern, tap, character and lyrical dances, all of which are taught as part of the HAPA dance curriculum. Highlights include a tap piece called “Good Mornin’” and a 20-minute dance tribute to the music of Louis Armstrong.
