HAMMOND | Students from Deer Creek Christian School in University Park, Ill., toured a Hammond Civil War exhibit Tuesday as part of a free field trip program being offered at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond.

The students received a guided tour through the free public exhibit, which includes hundreds of photos, artifacts, narrative text and battle-flag reproductions telling the stories of the Calumet Region's contributions to the Civil War.

Region schools interested in booking a field trip can call Richard Piszczek at the Welcome Center, (219) 554-2954.

The exhibit is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through June 30.
