HAMMOND | The Travel Channel’s Mysteries at the Museum will be exploring the story of John Dillinger’s infamous escape from the Crown Point, Indiana Jail, in 1934. The episode, which airs Thursday, November 15 at 8 p.m. CDT, showcases the wooden gun that helped Dillinger escape from the “escape-proof” jail house.
Speros Batistatos, president and CEO of South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority, will discuss the story behind Dillinger and those involved with the fight for his capture while discussing how the wooden gun was used to trick and unarm the officers who were on guard.
The museum has previously been featured on Fox Evening News, WGN Morning News, ABC Evening News Chicago, and others. Aside from the wooden gun, the museum also houses Dillinger’s “death trousers”, era-related news articles, toys and trinkets, and information on other key players involved with John Dillinger and the advancements made in crime fighting technology.
The John Dillinger Museum is open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. seven days a week and is located inside the Indiana Welcome Center at 7770 Corinne Drive, Hammond Indiana, 46323.
