HAMMOND | An East Chicago man is facing federal drug charges after police found marijuana and cocaine at his house Wednesday, according to court records.

Jose Alvarez Jr., of the 400 block of Spring Street, was charged Thursday with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a federal narcotics violation.

Officials searched Alvarez's home after a confidential source purchased drugs from Alavarez, according to a complaint filed Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Police searched the home Wednesday and found 4,411 grams of marijuana and 2,072 grams of cocaine, according the complaint.

A stolen handgun from Portage was found in a pink bag on top of the kitchen cabinets, according to the complaint. The pink bag also had a scale and cocaine, authorities said.
