HAMMOND | An East Chicago man has been sentenced to 17½ years in federal prison for producing child pornography.
Dante Christopher Vasquez, 44, signed a plea agreement with federal prosecutors in July, admitting to producing child pornography, Hammond federal court records show.
Vasquez, who was sentenced Thursday, had been charged with four counts of producing child porn and one count of possession of child porn and sexual exploitation in February in U.S. District Court, Hammond.
Vasquez also will be required to serve 20 years on supervised release.
According to the U.S. attorney's office, Hammond police began to investigate Vasquez after receiving a complaint of an adult taking nude photos of a juvenile family member. An officer interviewed the victim's mother, who confirmed Vasquez had cared for her children at times and had used the mother's camera to take nude pictures of the child, prosecutors allege.
