HAMMOND | An East Chicago man was sentenced Thursday to 2.5 years in prison for manufacturing more than $8,000 in counterfeit money.

Jerome Jerry Scott also was ordered to serve three years of supervised release, court records state.

Scott was arrested in June 2011 after police were called to his child's mother's home in East Chicago for a disturbance and he was found to have an active warrant, according to a criminal complaint.

Police taking him into custody found more than $5,000 in counterfeit money in his pocket, the complaint states. Officials found an additional stash of $3,000 in fake money during a search of the home the next day, court records state.

No fine was imposed as part of his sentence.
