HAMMOND | Purdue University Calumet is offering two continuing education courses for professional engineers.

One course, “Due Diligence for Construction Related Projects”, is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 14 on campus in the Powers Computer Education Building and offers 2.0 professional development hours. The other, “Professional Engineering Ethics”, is a web-based, self-paced course, from which 1.0 PDH can be earned.

“Due Diligence for Construction Related Projects” is designed to provide a basic understanding of various steps typically performed for construction-related projects. Instruction will cover environmental site assessments, SPCC plan, indoor air quality and industrial hygiene (asbestos, LBP, mold survey), geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services.

The instructor is Akhtar (Art) Zaman, a senior project engineer and branch manager with Cardno ATC, an international environmental, indoor air quality, geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing firm in Highland.

“Professional Engineering Ethics” covers the relationship between Indiana Administrative Code for Professional Engineers and Engineering Societies’ codes of ethics, purpose and importance of codes of ethics and ethical perspectives and application of ethical principles to specific cases within an engineering context.

The instructor is Howard Cohen, Purdue Calumet chancellor emeritus. A veteran instructor of engineering ethics, he offers expertise in ethics for the professions and social philosophy.

Course cost is $50, which covers resource materials. Login instructions will be sent upon receipt of payment.
