HAMMOND | Proceeds generated from an upcoming reception and silent auction will be used for future child abuse prevention programs, event organizers said.
Prevent Child Abuse Lake County hosts its CHAIRish the Children event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Indiana Welcome Center, 7770 Corinne Drive.
A suggested donation of $5 will be accepted at the door.
Child-sized chairs decorated by Lake County students will be auctioned.
Local artists and teachers also will judge the chairs, and the top three schools will receive a cash prize to assist their art departments.
The chairs will be on display at the Indiana Welcome Center through Wednesday in conjunction with the “Region United, Nation Divided: Civil War in the South Shore” historical exhibit. Civil War re-enactors will be present during Wednesday's reception and will be available to answer questions about the Civil War-era.
