HAMMOND | A former Cook County deputy pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of selling a firearm to a convicted felon, according to court records.
Claude Ray Hunter, of Schererville, pleaded guilty to the charge without a plea agreement, according to court records. His trial was scheduled to start Monday.
According to the indictment, Hunter sold the firearm to a known convicted felon Oct. 3, 2012. He was indicted Nov. 28, 2012, following an investigation by the FBI.
Hunter resigned March 18 as deputy from the Cook County Sheriff's Office after the department had recommended he be terminated, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Hunter is scheduled to be sentenced March 6.
