HAMMOND | To kick-off National Tourism Week, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority will host Family Safety Education Day on Saturday at the Indiana Welcome Center, 7770 Corinne Drive.
Hammond police and fire departments will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to teach children about safety, with children’s fingerprinting, a motorcycle display and K-9 demonstrations.
In addition, National Tourism Week will include Explore the South Shore from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10 at the Indiana Welcome Center. Families can discover attractions, festivals and things to do along the South Shore.
Visit numerous interactive booths, including the Challenger Learning Center’s StarLab, the Gary SouthShore RailCats inflatable ball toss, bean bags, musical chairs, a performance by Indiana Ballet Theatre, a magic show, a Hula Hoop contest and $1 train rides.
