HAMMOND | A fire in a a rear storage area damaged a Hohman Avenue bar and grill early Thursday.

According to Chief Fire Inspector Michael Opinker, firefighters were called at 4:32 a.m. to the UFO Bar & Grill, 4536 Hohman Ave. When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames in a rear storage area.

Opinker said the restaurant and bar suffered smoke damage, but firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the storage area.

Officials closed Hohman Avenue in both directions for about 30 minutes as crews battled the blaze. Firefighters left the scene around 5:40 a.m.

Opinker said no injuries were reported as a result of the fire. A preliminary investigation points to an electrical cause for the fire, Opinker said. The investigation is ongoing.
