Five charged in alleged identity theft scheme

HAMMOND | Five area residents face identity theft and other charges related to the illegal use of private information obtained through an Illinois health-care business, the U.S. attorney's office announced Friday.

Copies of the indictments and details of the alleged criminal activity were not yet available Friday afternoon.

Charged in the alleged scheme are:

• Alexis Young, 31, of Hammond, with one count of conspiracy to commit identity theft, three counts of aggravated identity theft, one count of violating health-care privacy laws and six counts of unlawful use of Social Security numbers.

• Angela Young, 41, of Chicago Heights, with one count of conspiracy to commit identity theft and three counts of aggravated identity theft.

• Cynthia Mullins, 45, of Gary, with one count of conspiracy to commit identity theft.

• Montrease Young, 30, of Chicago, with one count of conspiracy to commit identity theft.

• Chavon Jackson, 27, of Hammond, with one count of conspiracy to commit identity theft.

The charges followed an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service's inspector general, the Hammond-based U.S. attorney's office announced.
