HAMMOND | Firefighters responded to a fire that broke out Monday in the rear of Yellowstone Bar and Grill in Hessville.
Firefighters received a call of smoke coming out of the business, 7015 Kennedy Ave., about 4:45 p.m., Hammond Fire Department Assistant Chief Scott Rakos said.
No one was inside the bar or the upstairs apartment at the time of the fire. The bar, formerly known as Copper Penny Sports Bar & Grill, had been scheduled to open at 6 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes, Rakos said. He said the fire caused damage to the back of the business but not the upstairs apartment.
The cause of the fire and a damage estimate was not known as of Monday night.
