HAMMOND | A former Morton High School teacher was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison.

Jon Erik Lilly, 28, of Cedar Lake, pleaded guilty in June to two counts of receipt of child pornography, according to court records. He's accused of asking four students to send him sexually explicit photos of themselves, according to court records.

Lilly was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison followed by 10 years of supervised released, according to a judgment order filed Tuesday in federal court. He also will have to register as a sex offender.

School City of Hammond Superintendent Walter Watkins previously said Lilly resigned from the district after administrators suspended him when the allegations arose.

According to a sentencing memorandum, Lilly is remorseful and embarrassed about the incidents that led to his arrest.
