HAMMOND | A Gary man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the October robbery of a Chase Bank in Merrillville, federal court records show.
A criminal complaint against Stacy Davis, 45, was unsealed this week in U.S. District Court in Hammond. Charges were not yet apparent as of Wednesday afternoon.
Davis had an initial appearance before a federal judge Tuesday and was taken into custody. A probable cause and detention hearing is scheduled for Friday.
According to the complaint, Davis is believed to be responsible for the robbery of the Chase Bank, 8585 Broadway, in Merrillvillle on Oct. 11, along with seven other bank robberies in Indiana and Illinois.
In the Merrillville case, a man passed a note to a teller saying it was a robbery and demanding money. The teller gave the man $3,100, according to the complaint.
The man did not cover his face during the robbery, so a clear surveillance picture was obtained.
A review of the photo found the man also had robbed the TCF Bank, 716 Ridge Road, Munster, on Oct. 2, according to the complaint.
