HAMMOND | A Gary man was arrested after a police officer saw him firing a gun toward an intersection with people at a bus stop Monday, court records state.
Wesley Tremayne King was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm in a federal criminal complaint Wednesday, court records state.
A Gary police officer said he saw King firing shots toward the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Broadway on Monday, according to the complaint.
The officer also said he saw several people at a nearby bus stop drop to the ground to avoid being hit by bullets.
When police caught up with King, he told them he had shot at a person who he believed had tried to force entry into his home in the 4400 block of Washington Street, the complaint states.
King was convicted of possession of a controlled substance in Cook County, records state. He also told police he had a prior felony conviction for murder, according to the complaint.
Police retrieved a pistol from King's bedroom in the home, court records state.
