HAMMOND | A Gary woman is charged with stealing more than $1,000 from the U.S. Social Security Administration.
An indictment made public Friday in Hammond federal court accuses Lakita D. Lee, 35, of stealing the money from the federal agency between December 2008 and March 2012.
No further details about the case were available in court documents, and Hammond U.S. attorney's spokeswoman Mary Hatton said no other information was being made public Friday.
A press release from the Hammond-based U.S. Attorney's office indicated the charge against Lee followed an investigation by the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General.
