HAMMOND | Successfully passing algebra 1 is the most accurate predictor of high school graduation. Recently students in the freshman academy at Gavit High School were made aware of this fact and were given the opportunity to take some positive steps towards graduation.
The students were invited to take the following pledge: “I pledge to do my personal best and earn my high school diploma. I will work hard to achieve academic success. It is my goal to graduate high school with a plan, purpose, and to be prepared for post-secondary education. I am committed to graduating from Gavit High School Class of 2016!”
When the students made that commitment, they were invited to sign a banner which will remain posted in the hallway of the school for the next four years.
The banner reads: "Believe in You-Graduate. Donald E. Gavit High School, Class of 2016."
The students have approached this activity seriously, and know how important it is to earn a high school diploma.
