HAMMOND | Seventh and eighth grade students from Hammond Gavit Middle School recently visited Purdue University Calumet to explore engineering technology and engineering disciplines.
Under the direction of Purdue Calumet Technology Administrator David McLees, students, accompanied by their teacher, Kathryn Remaley, gained insight about technological fields of manufacturing, construction/civil, computer graphics, electrical, mechatronics and computer information. They also learned about engineering-related simulation and visualization.
“We wanted the students to see the many different career opportunities available in the technology field,” McLees said. “We also wanted them to gain understanding about how math plays an important role in those careers. This understanding can help students make an early decision to prepare academically for college.”
