As we start a new year, the city of Hammond also starts a new calendar of events.
Saturday with the Globetrotters
The Harlem Globetrotters “Fan’s Rule” World Tour will return to the Hammond Civic Center at 7 p.m. Saturday. With a roster showcasing stars such as Special K. Daley, Big Easy Lofton, Flight Time Lang, Hi-Lite Bruton and Dizzy Grant, join us for this one-of-a-kind family entertainment guaranteed to please all ages.

Public forum Wednesday
The College Bound Scholarship Program, created as a 10-year promise to the city of Hammond, will expire at the end of the 2015-16 school year. The city is considering new revenue sources to continue providing scholarships for another 10 years.
As part of the renewal process, a series of public forums is planned, the next from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lost Marsh Golf Course in the North banquet room, 901 129th St.

Outdoor Sports Show
Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr. and the Hammond Parks & Recreation Department present the 30th annual Hammond Outdoor Sports Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 11 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Jean Shepherd Community Center, 3031 J.F. Mahoney Drive.
Cost of admission is $5, but children 12 and younger attend free.
Free seminars, free parking and door prizes. Free antler scoring from Buckmaster’s along with a trout pond, minnow races and a 30-foot rock climbing wall. WWE goes live
WWE returns to Hammond with the WWE LIVE Tour at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 Sohl Ave.
See your favorite wrestling superstars in action, including a special appearance by John Cena, CM Punk, Paul Haymen, Alberto Del Rio and The Wyatt Family (card subject to change).

Mayor's Night Out

The annual Sweetheart Dance will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 7 at Jean Shepherd Community Center. Live DJ, photographer, food and refreshments available thanks to the Hammond Parks Foundation.
