HAMMOND | Just like the first robin of spring, our first gypsy scam of the spring has occurred. An elderly person was "duped" into letting a fake public service worker into the house. Please inform all your elderly friends and relatives not to let NIPSCO, Water Department or any other utility into their house for any reason. Please have them call 911 if someone comes to the door, and wants to come in their house.

Also, please keep an eye out for suspicious person at our grocery stores, banks and financial institutions. Some of our previous gypsy victims have been followed from these businesses to their homes.
