HAMMOND | Have you ever wanted to burn your mortgage papers? Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana welcomes the community to witness a family do just that.
A brief ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jackson-Sanchez residence, 5838 Erie Ave., recognizing Rebecca Jackson-Sanchez and her family.
Jackson-Sanchez has paid off her 25-year mortgage. In celebration, the local Habitat affiliate is holding an inaugural mortgage burning ceremony. The Jackson-Sanchez family is the second, through the Northwest Indiana affiliate, to pay off its mortgage.
